Under the southern arcade of the Toskánský Palace is a gracious pizzeria and Italian café where you can break the dumpling habit. The building is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after all.
-
This is Prague’s – and perhaps Europe’s – best cocktail bar. It may look like a Jazz-Age time capsule, but Tretter’s is actually a relative newcomer, and highly welcome at that. You’ll find no bottle juggling, just serious mixology, very dry martinis and, if you’re lucky, a seat. Open until 3am.
-
The local customers here are serious about their literature, but talk so much you can’t read in peace. The hidden courtyard is a blissfully quiet space to enjoy a beer on summer nights, however.
-
Part of the proceeds from the pub “At the Black Ox” go to help the nearby school for the blind. Watching the regulars knock back litre after litre of beer, you can see why.
-
The city’s oldest brewing pub, U Fleků is famous for its delicious, dark lager and somewhat more than modest prices. Despite what anyone tells you, the Becherovka shots are not complimentary and the rounds keep coming until you say “ne ” five times. Very popular with busloads of tourists, and not without reason.
-
Exactly what you might expect from the city that created the “Beer-Barrel Polka”. U Fleků is probably the city’s most popular beer hall, and the prices reflect it.
-
One of a dying breed, the Raven serves some of the best greasy food in town and a superior half-litre of beer. Open until 5am.
-
Tuck into a plate of pickled sausages or herring at Vinohrady’s favourite no-nonsense pub. Simple but clean, with perfunctory service; they don’t make them like this anymore.
-
You might think the regulars at this pub on Malá Strana’s main drag would be used to tourists by now, but don’t be surprised if every face turns to meet you. Serves excellent Pilsner.
-
“The Swan” serves Pilsner Urquell and some substantial dishes, such as wiener schnitzel and goulash, on its garden terrace overlooking the upper Stag Moat.
