  • U Šuterů

Open again after a long hiatus, and all the better for the rest, U Šuterů is a classic. The only item out of keeping with tradition is the bow-tied waiters’ friendliness. Try fresh-baked duck or Prague’s best goulash.

  • The name “At the Shot-Out Eye” is a tribute to the half-blind Hussite general Jan Žižka from whom Žižkov takes its name and whose enormous statue looms overhead (see Žižkov TV Tower>).

  • Serving imported teas, sandwiches and salads, “At the Green Tea” offers a welcome change from the ubiquitous beer and fried food.

  • “At the Golden Pear” serves delicious Continental and Czech game dishes in picturesque Nový Svět.

  • U Zlaté Studně

Dining atop the hotel of the same name (see U Zlaté studně), guests “At the Golden Well” may think they’ve died and gone to heaven. The classic Continental cuisine matches the view – but only just. The dining room is tiny, so be sure to make a reservation.

  • This tiny wine cellar sells excellent imported and domestic wines. If the tables out front are full, take your bottle to Petřín Hill.

  • V Zátiší

Prague was introduced to fine dining at this small Bethlehem Square restaurant. The dégustation menu – a selection of tasters – brings out the kitchen’s best and pairs it with select Moravian wines. The seafood is so good you’ll forget you’re in a landlocked country.

  • The green walls and leather booths give the impression of a gentlemen’s club. The kitchen serves grilled meats.

  • The “Garden at the Opera” is the perfect gourmet dinner choice before or after a night at the State Opera. Outstanding value for money, too.

  • A sports bar for serious fans. Watch sports on their multiple screens while dripping barbecue sauce down your front.
