  • The House at the “New World”

A private residence in this gorgeous lane behind the castle is the dream of many Prague residents. The large house is bright and thoroughly modern inside, with three bedrooms, two baths, fully equipped kitchen and a large living room with fireplace. Central gas heating.

  • This company has more than 10 years’ experience hosting wanderers in a network of hostels. This Old Town hostel is above the Roxy nightclub, but keep your carousing to a minimum, as you share the building with anxious neighbours. Other locations around town are open during the summer.

  • An excellent location, not only is the pension at the Bears centrally located, it’s close to tram and metro stations, and situated above the city’s favourite Budvar pub.

  • Although the Blue Key is a newcomer, the house (now only a hand’s breadth from the tram tracks) dates from the 14th century. Each room has a small kitchen. Take room No. 126 or 127 for a wonderful castle view.

  • Prague’s most romantic address, the House at the Crayfish started out as a barn in 1739. Inside the log walls are charming country-style rooms. Room No. 6 has its own garden, fireplace and well. Near Prague Castle and the Loreto. No children under 12.

  • The hotel at the Three Ostriches gets its name from a 15th-century owner, who was a purveyor of ostrich feathers. The rooms are comfortably furnished and extremely quiet considering their proximity to Charles Bridge.

  • Once owned by astronomer Tycho de Brahe, the hotel “at the Golden Well” adjoins the Ledeburg Gardens, offering unparalled views. All rooms have whirlpool baths and Richelieu furniture. Book well in advance.

  • You’ll tell the folks back home about this one. With its antique rooms and legendary cellar (ask about the well) the Golden Well is a luxurious adventure. Kids under 15 stay free. (Not to be confused with the hotel of the same name in Malá Strana.)

  • Formerly the US cultural attaché’s residence, the Roosevelt is located in Prague’s elegant diplomatic district. There are three luxurious Art Deco apartments, a sauna, steam bath and, for secret agent types, bulletproof cars and bodyguards for hire.

  • Built in 1327 as the residence of Hradčany’s mayor, the Golden Star has a long history of elegance. The rooms and apartments are decked out with period furniture and modern baths. Room No. 33 is sublime.
