Palace Gardens

  • The terraced Palace Gardens on the southern slope
beneath Prague Castle

Following the demolition of its ramparts and fortifications, the southern slope beneath Prague Castle became an area of gardens, firstly vineyards and Italian-style Renaissance gardens. After Swedish incursions in 1648, the gardens changed again to take on a baroque air, complete with terraces, sculptures, impressive steps and fountains. A popular - indeed unmissable - place for a summer stroll, visitors can take in the views of Prague's Malá Strana (Lesser Town) and a panorama of the city.

    • When: 1 Apr - 31 Oct 2008 (annual)
    • Where: Palace Gardens
