Top 10 Shops
-
1. Obchod pod lampou
One of the scores of marionettes on sale here would make a great souvenir, since Prague is an international centre for marionette theatre. The helpful staff can teach you basic techniques of string-pulling.
-
2. Turkish Tea Room
They say Prague’s first café was owned by a Turk; this isn’t it. Drop in anyway for a cup of proper Turkish coffee or other delights, then buy some coffee to take home.
-
3. U bílého jablka
If you can’t bring yourself to leave Prague, take it with you: this shop sells adorable ceramic miniatures of the surrounding houses and other monuments.
-
4. Galerie Boema
The gifts and reproductions here run from merely eccentric to downright creepy. Take home a Torah pointer or scale replicas of gargoyles from St Vitus’s Cathedral.
-
5. American Heating
Around the corner from the US Embassy is a shop specializing in restoration and sales of historical stoves. Great news if you want to export Malá Strana’s coal-scented atmosphere home with you.
-
6. Mýrnyx Týrnyx
Hipsters can pick up Prague’s best club and retro fashions here, as well as expert clubbing advice from the friendly proprietress Maya Kvátný.
-
7. Kvetinářstvi uČervéneho lva
It appears as if a jungle is sprouting from the hole in the wall that is the “Flowershop at the Red Lion”. Spruce up your apartment or hotel room with their unique arrangements.
-
8. Faux Pas
Original fashions and club gear are the order of the day here. The shop frequently throws fashion shows at clubs around town.
-
9. Gallery Bambino di Praga
The souvenir shop across the street from the Church of Our Lady Victorious, named after the miracle child (see Church of Our Lady Victorious), raised many eyebrows when they claimed to have coined the word “Pokémon”– an acronym, they say, for their slogan “Power of the Bambino Keep up the Monde”.
-
10. Centrum Historie
This gallery sells replicas of all sorts of 14th- to 17th-century items. You can even watch as they make them, while sipping a drink brought to you by a maid in Baroque costume.
