Top 10 Old Town Hotels
-
1. Casa Marcello
Casa Marcello’s elegantly appointed rooms embrace their 12th-century character; wandering the hotel’s many stairs and hallways, you’ll think you’re in an Escher print. There is a small fitness club and excellent restaurant on the premises.
-
2. Inter-Continental
The Inter-Continental pulls out all the stops for its Club-Level guests, but all visitors will feel pampered. The large fitness centre has exercise machines, a swimming pool and a putting green. On a budget? Rooms with city views are less expensive than those overlooking the Vltava.
-
3. Černá liška
Across the street from Franz Kafka’s birthplace, with unobstructed views of St Nicholas and Týn churches, the Black Fox is the only hotel on Old Town Square. There are more graceful places to stay, but few as well situated. Only 12 rooms, so book early.
-
4. U Zlaté studny
You’ll tell the folks back home about this one. With its antique rooms and legendary cellar (ask about the well) the Golden Well is a luxurious adventure. Kids under 15 stay free. (Not to be confused with the hotel of the same name in Malá Strana.)
-
5. Hotel Metamorphis
Stylish touches like parquet floors, tiled stoves and stirring views of Ungelt coutyard and the intricate façade of St James set the Metamorphis apart. No lift. The patio restaurant does big business in summer.
-
6. U Medvídků
An excellent location, not only is the pension at the Bears centrally located, it’s close to tram and metro stations, and situated above the city’s favourite Budvar pub.
-
7. Hotel Ungelt
The immediate vicinity is haunted by at least two ghosts, but guests at the Ungelt have registered no complaints. Perhaps they’re sleeping too soundly in the nine renovated 10th-century apartments to notice. The courtyard offers glimpses of Týn Church. Book early.
-
8. Hotel Clementin
The Clementin has the peculiar honour of being the narrowest building in the city. As you might expect, the nine rooms in this Gothic building are small, but gracious. You might have trouble with large luggage.
-
9. Hotel U staré paní
A no-frills affair, but the clean, modern building is staffed with an amiable crew. Each of the 18 rooms has a minibar and satellite TV, but for better entertainment, catch the acts at the club downstairs.
-
10. Dům u krále Jiřího
Tasteful but not elegant. Skip the breakfast and dig in to an Irish fry-up at the James Joyce downstairs.
