  • 1. Kampa Park

Consistently rated Prague’s best restaurant, chic Kampa Park has an unparalleled riverside location and an outstanding menu with influences from all over the world. Proprietor Nils Jebens also owns another restaurant on Malostranské náměstí.

  • 2. U Šuterů

Open again after a long hiatus, and all the better for the rest, U Šuterů is a classic. The only item out of keeping with tradition is the bow-tied waiters’ friendliness. Try fresh-baked duck or Prague’s best goulash.

  • 3. Pravda

Around the corner from the Old-New Synagogue (see Features in the Old-New Synagogue) is where the other half dines on a multi-national menu before unwinding in the music bar downstairs. The window counters are ideal for people-watching.

  • 4. V Zátiší

Prague was introduced to fine dining at this small Bethlehem Square restaurant. The dégustation menu – a selection of tasters – brings out the kitchen’s best and pairs it with select Moravian wines. The seafood is so good you’ll forget you’re in a landlocked country.

  • 5. U Zlaté Studně

Dining atop the hotel of the same name (see U Zlaté studně), guests “At the Golden Well” may think they’ve died and gone to heaven. The classic Continental cuisine matches the view – but only just. The dining room is tiny, so be sure to make a reservation.

  • 6. Alcron

Seafood is the speciality at the Radisson’s new restaurant, but the chef is happy to prepare almost any dish. Just ask him as he makes the rounds of this minute Art Deco lounge. If the dining room is full, try La Rotonde across the foyer. After dinner, you can enjoy cocktails and live jazz in the Bebop bar.

  • 7. La Perle de Prague

After a slightly off season or two, Prague’s former flagship of French cuisine is rising to the top again. Having had a remodelling and acquired a new chef, local foodies are enthusiastically making their way back to the top of Frank Gehry’s famed “Fred-and-Ginger” building (so-called because its design resembles the legendary Hollywood pair dancing) to see what’s to enjoy on the new, first-rate menu.

  • 8. Plzeňská restaurace v Obecním domu

It may be a bit touristy, but nevertheless, gorgeous tiled mosaics of bucolic Bohemians cover the walls while an accordionist rolls out the Beer-Barrel Polka almost non-stop. The traditional food and beer are quite good and fairly priced.

  • 9. Allegro

The Four Seasons’ restaurant is the toast of the town even with other top restaurateurs. Expect highly attentive service and fine, authentic Italian cuisine by Milanese chef Vito Mollica.

  • 10. Country Life

Take heart, vegetarians, you haven’t been forgotten. A meat-and dairy-free lunch buffet by day,à la carte menu for dinner, and it’s all non-smoking. Pick up organic necessities at the adjoining shop.
