  • It’s worth staying at this gorgeous chateau hotel just to enjoy breakfast on its clifftop terrace, looking out over the sea below (see Château de la Chèvre d’Or, Eze).

  • Loud and louche, Disco 7 attracts a mixed gay and straight crowd. Techno and transvestism make for a decadent atmosphere. Not for the faint-hearted.

  • The seafront at Menton is a solid strip of open-air cafés, but this elegant hotel’s café-terrace is the most stylish.

  • Proving that the 1970s never really died, this long-standing Cannes nightspot is so Riviera. Dress flash to fit in with the crowd of middle-aged groovers who still make this their club of choice. Drinks average a breathtaking €40, however.

  • The terrace of the Carlton InterContinental is the top place to see and be seen in Cannes, with a superior view of the bay and promenaders along the Croisette.

  • “Bar sympa” , they say in French, which means friendly and appealing – especially for the young, artistic and mildly eccentric.

  • This hotspot livens up the beachfront with outside dance floors. Thursday evenings offer a buffet dinner then dancing till dawn.

  • This trendy and smoothly ambient lounge bar is the perfect place to relax and meet friends before hitting the town for a big night out.

  • Rock and roll on a budget (by Cannes standards) in this disco which also features live bands and has better musical taste than most venues around town.

  • A brasserie by day, Le Bora-Bora becomes a buzzing music bar by night. Wash down the Latino-Caribbean rhythms with a fine choice of cocktails.
