  • 1. Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild

    Gorgeous formal gardens and lily ponds surround the pink-and-white villa built by Beatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild (see Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat).

  • 2. Jardin Exotique, Monaco

    The largest collection of succulent rock plants in the world. Within the gardens is a 60-m (200-ft) deep cave with spectacular limestone formations.

  • 3. Parc Fontvieille and Princess Grace Rose Garden, Monaco

    Palm and olive groves and a small lake surround 4,000 roses planted in memory of Princess Grace of Monaco, who died in a car accident.

  • 4. Japanese Garden, Monaco

    This formal garden is a triumph of Zen horticulture and a striking contrast to the classic gardens of the Riviera.

    Charles Garnier, designer of the Monte Carlo Casino, built this magnificent villa, set in an 11-ha (27-acre) park with trees from all over the world.
