POMPEII - Visiting Pompeii was one of the highlights of my trip. Going there was definitively one of the best decision I made and some of the best expended money in my visit to Italy. If you have the time, stay in Napoli overnight or for a couple of days and dedicate at least a full day to Pompeii and at least a half day to Herculanum. Sadly I only took a daytrip so a lot of time was wasted on the road from and to Rome (around 3 hours in each direction). Although I'm not a big fan of organized tours, in this case I suggest you to take one or to hire a guide in Pompeii so you can fully understand the site. And please notice that Pompeii is not for history lovers only. My mom (who is not into ruins at all) truly enjoyed the visit and it became one of her favorite memories of Italy.
