The Capuchin Crypt. An amazing set of rooms beneath the church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini on the Via Veneto. It is the final resting place for over 4,000 Capuchin monks. Their bones are arranged in intricate patterns, their skulls are piled high in formations, some bones hang from the ceiling as working light fixtures, and there are mummified holy men, still in their religious garb. It sounds grisly, but it’s actually very moving and life-affirming. The message is: Live your life to the full while you’re here; a very Italian sentiment.

Rome is a wonderful place, full of beauty and majestics sights to see, but sometimes it can be overwhelming and a place to relax is just what you need. The Spanish Steps are the place to sit and soak up the vibes. They may seem unremarkable at first, but they have a fantastic view of the bustle of the high street, a beautiful fountain at the bottom and it is a fantastic place to watch the sun set and reflect on everything.
