  • 1. Alexanderplatz

A little bit off the beaten track, in Prati, but the best jazz club in Rome bar none - Winton Marsalis, Lionel Hampton, George Coleman and many other international jazz stars have played here.

  • 2. Big Mama

Rome’s real house of blues, where the big names book and the smaller acts gig. Only open for live performances.

  • 3. Birreria della Scala

You may find the ever popular della Scala playing the role of beer hall or incarnated as a late-night restaurant, depending on the mood. Live music some evenings.

  • 4. Stardust

A Parisian-style mini-café (serving American brunches Sundays noon to 5pm) discreetly hides a jazz bar downstairs featuring sporadic live performances and a jam session on Tuesdays.

  • 5. Four Green Fields

Vaguely British-style pub upstairs, with all sorts of live music being played in the basement nightly.

  • 6. Accademia 90

A whole palazzo devoted to after-dark fun. The pub downstairs sometimes breaks out a DJ or live band; the upstairs pizzeria broadcasts football matches on the large screen; the rooftop terrace has great views and serves a full menu.

  • 7. Birreria Trilussa

Beer and simple dishes until the early hours, with live music some nights. Cosy, traditional atmosphere.

  • 8. The Place

There’s always live music on the main stage, be it jazz or soulful singer-songwriters.

  • 9. Caffè della Scala

A relaxed bar serving powerful cocktails and a great grappa selection. Live music is also on offer from time to time.

  • 10. Lettere Café

The focus is on books, but a couple of nights a week are devoted to live roots music.
