In spring, large areas of hillside explode with brilliant-colored blossoms of the giant tecolote ranunculus. The ranch harvests 6-8 million bulbs for export.

La Jolla’s first hotel was designed by Richard Requa (see San Diego County Administration Center). The 1913 building houses luxury suites, while a 1926 building contains the main hotel. Elegantly appointed rooms are in keeping with the hotel’s European ambience.
