  • Avenida Revolución

Keep a sense of humor, bargain hard, and remember: what you see is what you get. You may find some lovely folk art, a decent leather purse, and fine silver jewelry (see Avenida Revolución).

  • This independent bookstore has helpful staff, an ample selection of books of local interest and international papers and magazines.

  • Some worthwhile folk art is hidden among a hodgepodge of Hummel figurines, assorted brica-brac, blown glass, and black clay pottery. They have a good collection of alebrijes .

  • The hundreds of pharmacies in Tijuana cater mostly to Americans forced over the border by obscene US drug prices. Technically, you must have a prescription and can only bring back a reasonable personal amount.

  • Ferry Landing Market Place

At the foot of the Coronado Ferry (see Meade House), find an eclectic selection of souvenirs, clothing, and galleries. A great farmers’ market sets up on Tuesday afternoons.

  • The best folk art shop on Revolución carries a fine selection of alebrijes , which cost far more in the US, and Ken Edwards earthenware from Tlaquepaque.

  • A store that also operates a catering business, features select gourmet and entertainment items, as well as yummy chocolates.

  • Specializing in “things that glitter,” you’ll find clothes with lots of sparkles for the rodeo, salsa dancing, or that upcoming pageant. For everyday wear, go for the embellished denim and leather.

  • Fabrics, tablecloths, pillows, purses, and a charming collection of hand-painted eggcups are imported from the South of France.

  • If you’re walking over the border, wander through these shops first to get an idea about prices. Treasures exist amidst the vast amounts of pottery, glass-ware, blankets, and baskets.
