  • 1. Crystal Pier Hotel

Reservations are essential for these 1927 Cape Cod-style cottages which sit directly on the pier. Many have kitchenettes, and patios with views of Pacific Beach.

  • 2. Catamaran Resort Hotel

This Polynesian-themed hotel offers a long list of water activities. Within walking distance to many restaurants, Tiki torches light your way through lushly landscaped grounds. The upper floors of the towers have great views.

  • 3. Hilton San Diego Resort

Mediterranean in style, this resort is perfectly located to watch the evening fireworks at SeaWorld. Kid’s Klub can keep the kids entertained as you relax at the enormous swimming pool or spa. The best rooms are near the bay.

  • 4. Harbor Vacations Club

At San Diego’s most unique hotel, you have a choice to stay in eight different yachts, from a sailing catamaran to a 55-ft (17-m) coast cruiser. Or try the floating villas, which are dockside houses with showers, refrigerators, and cable TV.

  • 5. Bahia Resort Hotel

This venerable Mission Bay Hotel is right next to the bay and Mission Beach. At night, you can enjoy live music on the Bahia Belle, a stern-wheeler that floats on the bay every evening.

  • 6. The Beach Cottages

Detached cottages with full kitchens and laundry facilities are a good option for families who don’t need luxury. Other accommodation choices include apartments and basic, inexpensive motel rooms.

  • 7. Ocean Park Inn

Restaurants are within walking distance of this contemporary inn, and the boardwalk action is just outside the door. Quiet rooms with the best views are on the 3rd floor. All rooms feature a balcony or patio.

  • 8. Best Western Blue Sea Lodge

Head to the pool or the Pacific Ocean for a morning swim and then down the boardwalk for breakfast. New rooms and suites have brightened this lodge, but the older rooms have the beach view.

  • 9. Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort

Families love this sprawling resort. Rooms and time-share condominiums are available nightly or weekly. Several activities and classes are held daily, and there’s a good Mexican restaurant.

  • 10. Oceanside Marina Inn

Surrounded by water on three sides, large, breezy rooms have lovely views. Suites are great value with a balcony, kitchen, and fireplace. During summer, a boat ferries guests to a miles-long beach.
