  • Upmarket Nordstrom and all-purpose Macy’s are the anchor stores to this traditional indoor-outdoor shopping center. It isn’t much different from shopping centers all over America, but you might find prices cheaper here than in other parts of the city.

  • An old-fashioned candy shop, with jars and jars of all the traditional treats, plus some innovative confections. Adjoining is a charming toyshop, too, as well as Teddy’s Little Closet kids’ clothing.

  • Besides some very fine chests, chairs, bureaus, and the like, treasures of all sorts are tucked away in corners and cabinets.

  • Plenty of super-discount stores and funky home furnishing shops (see Mission District).

  • Another San Francisco original, here you’ll find everything for the outdoor adventurer, including camping gear.

  • Tibet Shop

In business for at least 40 years, it features a wide and colorful selection of merchandise from Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan – clothing, jewelry, artifacts, art – at very reasonable prices.

  • With the atmosphere of a pawnshop and the thick sound of Russian being spoken, this shop reflects the émigré neighborhood in which it’s located. All sorts of collectibles and gift ideas, mostly, but not only, of Russian origin.

  • If you’re having your second childhood, indulge in a bit of the hopping game in the entrance lobby to this colorful shop, where you’ll find kids’ shoes, clothes, and some toys and gifts, too.

  • Traditionally the focal point of all the best stores, including Tiffany & Co, Armani, Prada, Cartier, Yves St Laurent, Chanel, and more.

  • Converted Victorian homes house a charming assortment of boutiques, bookstores, antiques shops, restaurants, and a cinema.
