San Francisco

San Franciscans will, rather candidly, admit that they are the most fortunate people on earth, the occasional earthquake notwithstanding; and most visitors, after a few days of taking in the sights and sounds of this magnificent city, will agree. Ask anyone who has been here and they will tell you it’s their favorite US city. The geographical setting evokes so much emotional drama, the light seems clearer, the colors more vivid, the cultural diversity of the ethnic neighborhoods so captivating and inviting, that it’s a place almost everyone can fall in love with at first sight.

  • The Argonaut Hotel

The Argonaut is my favorite hotel in the world---they do everything right. It's located at the edge of Fisherman's Wharf (so you can opt in or opt out of the madness), and is decorated in luxurious fantasy nautical style.

Staff are very attentive to kids, inviting them to choose a toy from a treasure chest on check in, greeting them by name, and plying them with free crab and starfish-shaped cookies with room service.

Our room here (more of a suite, really) was a dream. It had a jacuzzi tub overlooking Alcatraz, comfy couches, a table and chairs, and on-demand video games---kid heaven!

There is a complimentary fireside happy hour every night too, which was very refreshing after a long day of sightseeing.

  • DON’T YOU WANT TO RELAX? DON’T YOU NEED TO FEEL GREAT? DON’T YOU WANT TO BE HAPPY?

If so, you choose the “MOST DELICIOUS” cheesecakes in the world.“CHEESECAKE FACTORY" is perceived as the highest quality cheesecakes in the sector. Just go and taste. When you taste them you’ll feel the difference and you’ll realize that they are "THE BEST”

  • This is an ideal stopover if you are arriving late into San Francisco. Just a short (complimentary) bus ride from the airport, with it's own indoor pool and gym, a good restaurant and lovely bayside walks, it's the perfect place to unwind from the long flight before transferring into the city the next morning. Lovely big rooms. Good value for money.

  • The Warming Hut

Directly under the Golden Gate Bridge at the end of Crissy Field, the Warming Hut is a great place to load up on coffee and only-in-San-Francisco souvenirs. They've got books, maps, toys, and environmentally-friendly gifts.

The adjacent beaches and lawns are a safe, car-free place for your kids to burn off some energy, and the views of the bridge and the city skyline are gorgeous.

  • Tony n' Tina's Wedding San Francisco

Get yourself invited to TONY N’ TINA’S WEDDING, now celebrating its 17th Hilarious Year in New York! At TONY N’ TINA’S WEDDING you don’t just watch the show…you are the show. It’s an all-inclusive event where you’re treated like one of the family.

The event begins with the side-splitting ceremony where anything can happen (and usually does!). Then, it’s time for the most hilarious wedding reception you’ll ever attend! You’ll enjoy a full Italian meal, raise a champagne toast, eat the wedding cake and dance the night away at the party you and your friends will be laughing about for years to come. The show stars "Tina," the headstrong 20-something party girl bride with an attitude – and "Tony," the rowdy, handsome, yet charming groom-to-be.

Other hilarious characters emerge from this quirky cast, which includes an entire wedding party of guests ranging from "Connie," the pregnant maid of honor, to "Father Mark," a priest who thinks he's hip. As the evening unfolds, the only guarantee is that there will be plenty of drama all around.

  • Yank Sing

Yank Sing has the best dim sum in town, bar none. We eat here as often as we can. Dim sum is actually a breakfast food, so be sure to go early for the best selection.

This restaurant has two locations. If you're bringing your kids, go to the one on Spear Street (in the Rincon Center), and ask to be seated in the atrium. There's a two-story water fountain, and your kids can safely explore the atrium between bites. Lots of families eat here, so you'll feel very comfortable.

We especially love the bbq pork buns, har gow, and siu mai. If your kids are skeptical about Chinese food, order some chicken chow mein---it's a good entry-level dish.

If it's a gorgeous day, avail yourself to the takeout counter and cross Embarcadero for a bayfront picnic. Don't forget to have your parking validated.

  • Zuni Cafe

Still fabulous after 25 years. Protege of Alice Waters creates great meals from breakfast to dinner, or just Oysters and champagne at the bar. Terrific building and atmosphere.
