  • Arthur's Seat

    Situated within Holyrood Park Arthur's Seat is an extinct volcano and one of the seven hills of Edinburgh. Although only 250m (823 feet) is a notable landmark, dominating the city which offer without question the best views of the city overlooking to the west the impressive Edinburgh Castle. It provides for the outdoor enthusiast a great green space in the heart of the city with many different walks for everyone.

  • Hermitage of Braid & Blackford Hill

    The countryside in the city! A beautiful local nature reserve between Morningside and Liberton. There are many varied habitats - mixed woodlands, a stream, a duckpond, steep rocky slopes, wild flower meadows. Climb up to the grassy summit of the hill for an unbeatable view of the city. There are walks to suit all levels of fitness - there's even a carpark next to the observatory at the top of the hill if you want to see the view without the climb! A visitor centre in the middle of the Hermitage provides information on the wealth of wildlife in the reserve. The reserve is easy to get to by local buses.

  • Islay

    The beaches of Islay are as varied as they are beautiful. While many are celebrated in the tourist brochures and guides there is one lesser-known stretch that will see you scrambling to take your shoes and socks off: Lossit Bay. It's got to be seen to be believed.
