  • Old fishing village, famous for smoking haddock, and making traditional Scottish soup - Cullen Skink - with the smoked haddock- delicious! Also see Telford's bridges, and in a wee shop, along with the most wonderful home cooked cakes and snacks, (as well as Cullen Skink, ) you can find hand made patchwork everything, and a host of other crafts, all made locally, and taught with such enthusiasm to the local schools and at classes within the shop, which you will find on the High Street, well down to the sea.

  • Durness

If its good enough for John Lennon's summer holidays its good enough for me. Beautiful and wild with one of the best beaches ever. The most romantic place I've ever been - it even inspired my partner to propose. Simply breathtaking

  • Excellent attraction - well worth a visit as long as you dont get scared easily or mind participating in the various exhibits - I got picked to perform an autopsy and take part in a witches trial - all good fun.

  • Visit the decommissioned Royal Yacht Britannia at Ocean Terminal, Leith, Edinburgh. Easily (and cheaply) reached by several frequent buses from city centre.

The Audio guide tour is just the right amount of detail, and you can have a snack or light lunch on board. Entrance is reasonably priced but the tearoom is not the cheapest place to eat, but is excellent quality.

And you can even use Tesco Day Out clubcard vouchers for the entrance fees.

  • This looks like a Roman colliseum on a hill overlooking Oban bay. Itis quite a steep climb up but worth it for the views when you get there.

  • The ruins of the Castle Knock are situated across a bog. It is only possible to get to it at low tide. It is a great place for a quiet picnic.
