  • Off the Rails

The atmosphere in this old railway station is delightful, and the food exquisite. Plenty of choice, and adequate wine – supreme value.

  • Imbued with golfing heritage yet retaining a refreshingly light air, this is dining at its finest. Virtuoso chef Mark Lindsey and a wine list of 200 bins. Smart dress and tie preferred.

  • Conscientiously organic, devoted to sourcing local ingredients, a member of the “Slow Food” movement and with its own smokehouse, this little restaurant has earned a big name. Awarded Rural Chef of the Year 2003 (see Old Pines, Spean Bridge) .

  • Elevated in attitude and altitude, this rooftop glass box offers views, well-mixed cocktails and a menu that emphasizes precision over showmanship.

  • Philipburn Country House

Bistro and restaurant offering light snacks to full meals. It maintains a country-house atmosphere, yet is very good value. Non-smoking.

  • Come here for the best fish and chips in the isles – probably in Scotland. Nothing fancy but simple home-cooking and plenty of choice.

  • A new discovery in an unexpected place. Seriously high quality modern cuisine prepared by chef Tony Borthwick. Gaining popularity by the day, so advance booking is advised.

  • Dinner is included with bed and breakfast here, simply because there’s nowhere else to go. Thankfully the restaurant excels itself (see Port Mor House) .

  • Lochside restaurant which offers international cuisine. Incredible variety and value, and adequate wine list (see Port-na-Con, Loch Eriboll) .

  • A wonderful place to imbibe, in equal measure, splendid cocktails and the Art Deco surrounds. Expensive in the main restaurant but fresh seafood a bargain in the brasserie.
