  • Aviemore

Where better to spend a fantastic White Christmas than in Aviemore? Skiing, beautiful scenery, whisky - and the locals are friendly too!

  • A beautiful family-run guest house on the outskirts of Alloway, birthplace of Rabbie Burns.

Costing less than a £100 per night, our room had an en suite bathroom and a small television lounge where you could have a free nightcap.

The inclusive breakfast was sumptuous to say the least. The owners were friendly and made us feel totally at home.

  • The lodges are designed to offer luxury holiday. They sleep from 1 to 6 people and are set in a little clearing in a forest, you get access to leisure facilities at a nearby leisure club and you also get access to fort william golf club. With being set in a forest there is lots of wildlife to see but you also have a verandah to sit out on it is fantastic.

  • Castle Lachlan is a family Scottish baronial house set in an estate of 1500 acres situated on the shores of Loch Fyne. The castle dates from the 18th century and is the clan seat of the MacLachlans one of the oldest highland clans.

  • Fabulous family leisure resort offering hotel and self catering accommodation, up to 5* standard (they even let your dog stay in 5 * units, so a real family affair!) Huge range of indoor and outdoor activities to suit all ages and is great for those big family get togethers.

Set in Perthshire which is also a wonderful place to go and explore.

  • Beautiful, old castle. Decor is classic. Castle is rumoured to be haunted & has a unique mysterious feel about it. Try the Library bar for a dated but distibguished night cap. The food was excellent & spa & luxury / health facilities were even more special in that setting. About 10 - 15 drive from central Edinburgh.

  • Glengorm Castle

A winding roads leads from the fishing village of Tobermory to Castle Glengorn, on a most northerly headland of the Isle of Mull - one of the dramatic islands to make up the Inner Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland.

The castle is something from a fairy tale with its majestic turrets and crow-stepped gables, and is surrounded by pungent rhododendrons bordering a well-kept lawn. The backdrop is the Atlantic Ocean, the peninsula of Ardnamurchan and, in the far distance, the neighbouring islands of Coll, Muck and Eigg.

The bedrooms are treasure troves of lovely antiques, some of which are obviously family heirlooms. The décor, far from the sleek minimalism of many modern hotels, is playful and traditional: silver mirrors and bowls, antique secretaries, heavy armchairs, and four-poster beds decorate the rooms.

The castle is not far from the wild and craggy coastline. Several paths lead you past windswept trees and moss-covered rocks to the coves, cliffs and salty ocean spray. Sea eagles, dolphins and even Minke whales have been spotted here, making this a true nature-lover’s paradise.

  • Inversnaid Hotel

This hotel is situated right on the Loch Lomond shore line. It is fairly isolated on the East side of the loch and other than a water borne arrival (By launch from Talbert or hotel launch) is approached by car, on a very narrow road single track with passing places, from Aberfoyle (14miles). The hotel is owned by 'Lochs and Glens' who own 6 hotels, all near water and other than the Highlander in Fort William are all fairly remote. The company mainly caters for coach tours. That said they do an unbeatable 2 for 1 self-drive £199 (FOR TWO) for 4 nights dinner bed and breakfast. I belong to this catergory. Having visited all of their hotels, which are all teriffic value, the Inversnaid views are outstanding, with natural waterfalls at the side of the hotel and Rob Roy's Cave a two mile walk along the loch shore. Walkers from all over visit the hotel car park just to enjoy the walks available in the area. The friendliness of the staff staff is outstanding. All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities and a small flat screen tv. The view from our room across the loch was something worth waking up to. There is a varied menu including a vegetarian option, which hits the spot. The public rooms are comfortable and include a quiet room with games available and a small library. We have just arrived back. Best value which will appeal to many.

  • Right slap bang in the middle of Perthshire is the tiny historic village of Kenmore, situated at the eastern end of Loch Tay where the River Tay starts it's journey to the sea. The Hotel is one of the oldest in Scotland, picturesqueto say the least. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, the food in the hotel restaurant is of the highest standard, and during the summer months there is usually some form of entertainment on offer, from dinner and music to impromptu singalongs in the bar. I can't praise the place highly enough. Bonuses - the scenery is stunning, only a few miles from the near 4000ft Ben Lawers, plus superb golf nearby and of course fishing on the river and loch. If you want something more energetic there are miles and miles of hiking trails, plus the watersports centre on the loch. And if you need to shop, you're only an hour from Perth! It's a superb base for touring the central highlands, and to me is Perthshire's best kept secret.

  • Lochgoilhead Holiday Village

Set in the picturesque Argyll part of the Scottish Highlands, this holiday village is nestled amongst the stunning backdrop of mountains and lochs. Choose from their famous A Frame Wood Lodges, or a luxurious caravan, or perhaps stay in the attached Drymsimie Hotel, whereever you choose to sleep you will wake up to the sound of nature able to breathe in the fresh highland air. Looking for things to do??? Take your choice from the 9 hole golf course, or maybe try some fishing in the freshwater loch, or step into their spa and heated indoor pool or even maybe some ice skating or the traditional scottish sport of curling. There is also a childrens play area, bowling rink and much more. Dont forget to pack your walking shoes as the scenery is not to be missed and long country walks will beckon. Only an hour from Glasgow this truly is a great holiday break for anyone.
