Scotland

Scotland has an overwhelming abundance of natural beauty, hundreds of castles stand proud from its long and turbulent past, and an innate flair for enterprise and travel has endowed the nation with artistic treasures from around the world. The culture remains vibrant today, and there’s much to celebrate. Here’s a distillation of Scotland’s best.

  • 24 hr Tesco

Tesco is a supermarket chain that's taking over the UK with their products and deals. You'll find them everywhere, but we especially prefer our 24hr Tesco. Advisable to only shop here for essentials or in possession of a good salary..

  • If you are visiting St Andrews take the time out to have afternoon tea at the Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa. Served in the 17th Road Hole Bar which is located on the top floor of the hotel with spectacular views over the Old Course and St Andrew's coastline.

The afternoon tea is fab and with a varied selsction of sandwiches, scones, cakes and pancakes. Well worth the trip.

  • Right on Buchanan Street, Glasgow's main shopping area this is a great pitstop. An Italian with a great selection of pizzas and pasta, many with a twist, as well as an impressive range of meat and seafood dishes - there is something for everyone.

  • This is an award winning and well known fish & chips bar located in a small fishing village on the east coast of scotland on the harbour front.

A wide variety of fish is on offer and is all fresh and locally caught, definitely worth queuing for.

Highly recommended for a fab meal and great views of this pretty village.

  • Scottish made beauty products, candles and toiletries from the Isle of Arran. This city centre store stocks an extensive range of their products and gift sets.

  • A rugged rocky hill right in the center of the city giving spectacular views in every direction, overlooking the city and and out over the Firth of Forth. All the well known places can be spotted and photos taken will give lasting memories of your visit.

  • Arthur's Seat

Situated within Holyrood Park Arthur's Seat is an extinct volcano and one of the seven hills of Edinburgh. Although only 250m (823 feet) is a notable landmark, dominating the city which offer without question the best views of the city overlooking to the west the impressive Edinburgh Castle. It provides for the outdoor enthusiast a great green space in the heart of the city with many different walks for everyone.

  • Aviemore

Where better to spend a fantastic White Christmas than in Aviemore? Skiing, beautiful scenery, whisky - and the locals are friendly too!

  • A beautiful family-run guest house on the outskirts of Alloway, birthplace of Rabbie Burns.

Costing less than a £100 per night, our room had an en suite bathroom and a small television lounge where you could have a free nightcap.

The inclusive breakfast was sumptuous to say the least. The owners were friendly and made us feel totally at home.

  • A quiet, cosy traditional pub. Downstairs is the bar area with comfy sofas as well as tables and chairs. Food is served downstairs until 5pm and upstairs in the restaurant after 5pm. The food is fantastic! All tastes freshly cooked and as though it has been made on the day, including the pasta in the ravioli. The fish was the best my partner had ever had, tasted like it had been caught that day. There was also a varied range on the menu, from traditional Hagis to fish, a choice of freshly made pastas or lamb shank. The prices were great too, neither of our meals cost more than £10. Service was prompt and friendly. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting the area!
