Monorail

  • One of the city’s favorite attractions is the Monorail, an exciting 90-second ride (see Monorail & Monorail) designed by Alweg Rapid Transit Systems. Each year, 2.5 million passengers board its original 1962 cars to get a taste of what designers imagined would be the mass transit model of the future. In May 2004 a fire started on one of the original trains, and service is suspended while the cause is being investigated. Plans are afoot to build a citywide commuter monorail to alleviate Seattle’s notorious traffic problems.
