Set in peaceful surroundings in Seattle, Woodland Park Zoo is home to more than 1000 animals. Set up in the late 19th century on forested land that was, at the time, considered to be out of town, today the zoo is home to numerous animals, endangered species and rare birds. Some of the residents include the African elephant, Malayan tapir, snow leopard, bald eagle and red-crowned crane, as well as amphibians and repitiles from the boa constrictor to the Komodo dragon. It also runs a successful conservation programme.
