  • Ceramiche d’Arte F.lli Soldano, Sciacca

Alongside shops selling Sciacca’s traditional green, yellow and blue ceramic dishes, the Soldano family produces traditional ceramics and modern designs on tableware and tiles.

  • This shop produces examples of Santo Stefano’s famous orange-and-yellow ceramics.

  • De Simone

The de Simone family has been producing high-quality hand-painted ceramics for generations, with designs illustrating jolly Sicilian farmers and fishermen.

  • Brightly coloured ceramics with designs of jolly peasant farmers and fishermen going about their daily tasks (see De Simone).

  • Step back into 19th-century Palermo in the streets of the mandamento del Capo, crowded with farmers, housewives, butchers and every sort of meat imaginable.

  • Each morning, under brightly striped awnings along the wharf, fishermen sell their catch.

  • An excellent selection of Sicilian, Italian and international wines are for sale in this wonderful Palermo enoteca , and there’s an area devoted to wine-tasting. Although wine is the focus, there are a few carefully selected food items as well, such as olive oil, pasta, honey and marmalade. If you want to relax and enjoy a glass or a bottle, visit their wine bar and restaurant near Piazza San Francesco d’Assisi (see Mi Manda Picone).

  • This store’s booty of Aeolian goods includes capers of every kind, sweet sundried tomatoes, honey, oregano and wine.

  • Hand-painted carretini , traditional Sicilian miniature carts, are sold here along with beautifully crafted papier-mâché figures and fruit.

  • You choose the style of heel and pick your own straps, and the artisans in this store will make custom-made sandals of wood and leather. All you have to do is come back later to pick them up.
