-
1. From Caltabellota
From the ruins of the Norman castle above Caltabellota (see Caltabellotta) you can see all the way to the flat coast stretching toward Marsala and the hilly interior dotted with villages and farms.
-
2. The Valle dei Templi by Night
Agrigento’s temples are even more romantic at night. You can see them from any vantage point but perhaps the finest view is from the terrace at Il Dehors (see Il Déhors de l’Hotel Foresteria Baglio della Luna, Agrigento), enjoying an excellent meal with the Temple of Concord as backdrop (see Agrigento and the Valle dei Templi).
-
3. Prizzi
Driving through the Corleonese zone (see Il Corleonese), Prizzi is one of the highest towns, covering the top of its hill like a cobbola (peasant farmer’s cap).
-
4. Views from Enna
From the Piazza Cripsi see across the deep valley to Calascibetta on the flat top of its own terraced hill, and across the interior all the way to Mount Etna.
-
5. Enna
From the valley floor to the east, Enna presents an impressive sight, the Rock of Demeter dominating the cliff above the site where Persephone was abducted by Hades (see Enna).
-
6. Countryside around Corleone and Prizzi
Vast expanses of rolling terrain are planted with wheat, vines, olives and silvery blue artichokes. Colours pop up here and there amid the green, such as a large swathe of crimson sulla, bright red poppies and hearty yellow fennel growing impossibly tall (see Il Corleonese).
-
7. Vallate near Enna
The enormous vallate (valleys) around Enna are planted with wheat, and the spectacular stretches of soft fields change colour with the seasons, from lush green, to golden yellow, to black.
-
8. The Rocca di Nadore
The round-topped Rocca di Nadore above Sciacca turns its flat, white face towards the sea and dominates the coast for miles. See it looming on the horizon as far away as Selinunte.
-
9. From Morgantina
From the residential sector on the east hill, look down on the agora (forum) and out towards the east coast and the outline of Mount Etna (see Morgantina).
-
