  • 1. Villa Landolina Gardens

    Villa Landolina’s gardens sit on a site rich in finds from an ancient Greek necropolis, parts of Hellenistic streets and later Christian catacombs.

  • 2. Bronze Age Material from Castelluccio

    Materials from the Castelluccio site, between Noto and Palazzolo Acreide, show trade links between early Sicilians and eastern Mediterranean cultures.

  • 3. Material from Pantalica

    Pantalica, near Palazzolo Acreide, was inhabited by the pre-Greek Sicels, who produced elegant red-glazed pottery.

  • 4. Greek Kouros, Lentini

    This 6th-century BC kouros (statue of a muscular youth) is one of the best examples of ancient Greek sculpture.

  • 5. Mother Goddess

    Made of terracotta around 500 BC, this object represents the mother goddess nursing twins. She is remarkable for the sense of solidity blended with tenderness.

  • 6. Venus Anadyomene

    A Roman copy of a Greek 2nd-century BC original. From her pose, to the high polish of the marble, she is an image of pure sensuality.

  • 7. Temples of Athena and Apollo

    Fragments from two Doric temples on Ortygia are on show, such as polychrome parts of a Gorgon.

  • 8. Ephebus from Adrano

    This small athletic bronze figure was found near Adrano, and dates from around 460 BC.

    A lekythoi (tall one-handed vase) painted with Herakles and the Hydra is the most impressive.

  • 10. Wooden Statuettes of Demeter and Kore

    These rare examples of wooden statuary were found at a sanctuary between Gela and Agrigento. They date from the late 7th century BC and survived because they were covered in the mineral-rich mud of a local spring.
