The Eora people, the Aborigines who settled around Sydney Harbour, arrived approximately 50,000 years ago, while the white settlers arrived just over 200 years ago. Free settlers soon followed in the wake of the First Fleet of transported convicts, and after them several waves of migrants seeking a new life. Now, two centuries later, the once far-flung penal colony has matured into a culturally diverse, tolerant and mesmerizing city. Ideally located on the world’s most beautiful harbour, Sydney is as exciting and bustling as it is laid back and relaxing.

It's the ultimate Sydney bar, you can get classics, like bbq'd shrip and steaks, or you can get some esoteric favorites like kangaroo meat on a stick or even sliced dolphin, a more traditional Kiwi favorite. A definite must-stop for any Sydney traveler, if only to see the Aussie fishermen back in fram getting a big catch off the coast of Tasmania.

After enjoying a film at the pictures, eat in this cafe situated right next to Dendy cinema. Very affordable, and very delicious! My favourites are the simple risottos.

A reasonably economic place to eat if you are "into" Buffet-type meals. The selection, on the day that I went there, was sufficient to satisfy most tastes. I was "signed-in" by a Member but entry to this style of eatery seems to be getting fairly flexible, these days. I would imagine that membership of any similar sort of Organisation would be acceptable. No wheels ?? The building is quite close to Caringbah station on the Cronulla line of Sydney's very efficient electrified commuter-train network. A meal for three of us cost about AUD$42, which I considered to be very kind to a budget. For a lunch break from Sydney CBD, get on a ferry from Circular Quay heading for Watsons Bay. Enjoy the cruise past the Opera House, Gardens and Harbour front mansions for your destination of Watsons Bay. On the wharf at Watsons Bay is Doyles Seafood Takeaway (the most economical of all the Doyles establishments in the area), great fish and chips, and a park opposite for your picnic with the "triffecta" of views (Harbour, Opera House and Bridge). Other nearby attractions include a walk to "The Gap"a popular suicide point, or a harbourside pool for a swim. You can return to town either by bus or ferry. All in all its a great afternoon out, and very easy on the budget.

Fantastic tapas restaurant. Beautiful Spanish decor with huge paintings and typical Spanish furniture. Excellent tapas menu, huge portions and very reasonably priced. Attentive and charming staff.

This is held on the last Sunday of every month at the coolabar on Pitt Street. A must if you've ever watched the Australian soap Neighbours. Three of the cast are on stage for a question and answer session. We got Karl, Steph and Toadie! Then they wander round and meet everyone while you're completing a pub quiz. A perfect snap to show your friends at home and worth it for the pure randomness! They hold these every week in Melbourne at the Elephant and Castle in St. Kilda.
