Sydney

Sydney is blessed with stunning ocean beaches, magnificent national parks and a wonderful subtropical climate that makes the great outdoors irresistible to its four million inhabitants. The Eora people, the Aborigines who settled around Sydney Harbour, arrived approximately 50,000 years ago, while the white settlers arrived just over 200 years ago. Free settlers soon followed in the wake of the First Fleet of transported convicts, and after them several waves of migrants seeking a new life. Now, two centuries later, the once far-flung penal colony has matured into a culturally diverse, tolerant and mesmerizing city. Ideally located on the world’s most beautiful harbour, Sydney is as exciting and bustling as it is laid back and relaxing.

  • Aye Matey Bar and Grill

It's the ultimate Sydney bar, you can get classics, like bbq'd shrip and steaks, or you can get some esoteric favorites like kangaroo meat on a stick or even sliced dolphin, a more traditional Kiwi favorite. A definite must-stop for any Sydney traveler, if only to see the Aussie fishermen back in fram getting a big catch off the coast of Tasmania.

  • Backpacker Boat Tours

An all day, hop-on, hop-off style boat cruise of the Sydney Harbour. It takes you to all of the best sites on the Harbour such as the Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Rocks, Darling Harbour, Circular Quay and Watson's Bay. You also get a free lunch at the Sydney Fish Markets, take a stroll on Manly Beach, see where the celebrities live and go swimming at a secluded beach. With the complimentary pick-up and drop-off, you really can't beat this tour in terms of value or fun! It's only $99 for 7 hours of unmatched sightseeing and information on a tour lead by entertaining Sydney locals!

  • After enjoying a film at the pictures, eat in this cafe situated right next to Dendy cinema. Very affordable, and very delicious! My favourites are the simple risottos.

  • A reasonably economic place to eat if you are "into" Buffet-type meals. The selection, on the day that I went there, was sufficient to satisfy most tastes. I was "signed-in" by a Member but entry to this style of eatery seems to be getting fairly flexible, these days. I would imagine that membership of any similar sort of Organisation would be acceptable. No wheels ?? The building is quite close to Caringbah station on the Cronulla line of Sydney's very efficient electrified commuter-train network. A meal for three of us cost about AUD$42, which I considered to be very kind to a budget. Remember that anyone who goes away hungry from such a place is, obviously, very hard to please - I was quite replete, Thank You. Oh, by the way - R.S.L. ?? returned Servicemens' League

  • Walk around the coast from Coogee Bay to Bondi taking in the pretty coves along the way. Takes about half a day.

  • A fantastic waterside restaurant that can be reached by seaplane, ferry or car, serving the best Australian food. Meet the local kookaburras, enjoy the views of the rugged beauty of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and visit Palm Beach, the location for 'Home and Away'.

  • For a lunch break from Sydney CBD, get on a ferry from Circular Quay heading for Watsons Bay. Enjoy the cruise past the Opera House, Gardens and Harbour front mansions for your destination of Watsons Bay. On the wharf at Watsons Bay is Doyles Seafood Takeaway (the most economical of all the Doyles establishments in the area), great fish and chips, and a park opposite for your picnic with the "triffecta" of views (Harbour, Opera House and Bridge). Other nearby attractions include a walk to "The Gap"a popular suicide point, or a harbourside pool for a swim. You can return to town either by bus or ferry. All in all its a great afternoon out, and very easy on the budget.

  • Georges Head Lookout

The lookout is based on the circular gun emplacements of the old fort. Great park to just sit in and watch the harbour. My wife and I spent the whole of 31 Dec there.. no crowds beacuse its away from the main viewing area.. but we had the best view of 4 of the harbours fire works. We took our dog and an esky and just relaxed.

  • An international hotel located in the heart of the Circular Quay district, close to the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, the Sydney Botanical Gardens, the ferry terminal and more!

  • Incu Clothing

A great clothing store selling men and women's clothing by hip and trendy Australian and overseas designers. This boutique sums up what's currently hot in Sydney or even Australian fashion. Brands such as: American Apparel, A.P.C., Gorman, Alice McCall, Karen Walker, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Deborah Sweeney, Camilla and Marc, Lover, Tsubi, Rag & Bone etc.
