  • 1. Ferries

It’s been 135 years since the first row boats transported customers across the harbour. Now 32 ferries offer nine fantastic destinations.

  • 2. Jet & River Cats

If you plan to visit Sydney Olympic Park or Parramatta’s historic attractions, avoid the congestion of Parramatta Road by taking one of the sleek River Cat Ferries. If you can’t wait for a swim at Manly Beach, catch the Jet Cat.

  • 3. Ferry Cruises

Sydney ferries offer great value cruises, such as Watsons Bay via Rose Bay and Fort Denison, Middle Harbour and Shark Island to Goat Island.

  • 4. Water Taxis

Although too expensive for daily commuting, these taxis are a fun option if you fancy a peek at the luxurious harbourside mansions or a picnic on one of the islands.

  • 5. Catamarans

Several gigantic catamarans service the harbour tourist trade. In some cases you can enjoy an on-board BBQ, or work on your tan as you cruise the harbour.

  • 6. Jet Boats

If you feel the urge to “burn rubber” on the harbour, the harbour’s jet boats will definitely give you an adrenaline fix.

  • 7. Tall Ships

If they’re in town, enjoy a harbour voyage on either of Sydney’s two tall ships, the Svanen or the Bounty, a replica of Bligh’s vessel built for the film of the same name.

  • 8. Boats for Hire

Rent anything from sea kayaks to 14-ft (4.3-m) aluminium boats to 20-ft (6-m) half-cabin cruisers. Or hire a kayak and explore Middle Harbour.

  • 9. Seaplane

Numerous flights around Sydney Harbour offer excellent fly-and-dine packages and can also take you to the gorgeous Northern Beaches, Pittwater and Hawkesbury regions.

  • 10. Helicopter

For a touch of Mission Impossible , catch a helicopter for an exciting and scenic ride over the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, Eastern Suburbs and Manly Cove.
