    Widely considered Sydney’s best restaurant, Tetsuya’s serene space puts the emphasis on the food and wine. The dégustation menus fuse Japanese flavours with French technique. Vegetarian dégustations are available on request.

    This stylish spot is ideal for a luxurious meal. The Mod Oz menu boasts dishes such as grilled swordfish on eggplant with chilli, sherry vinegar, garlic and mint salsa.Don’t miss the fabulous passion-fruit soufflé.

  • 3. Guillaume at Bennelong

    You can’t beat dining at the Opera House (see Sydney Opera House). Celebrity chef Guillaume Brahimi prepares Australian food with French skill. A less expensive option is to order tapas-style dishes from the cocktail bar.

  • 4. Wildfire

    The glam Wildfire restaurant has an open kitchen, great for a big night out or a snack after a show. Enjoy a range of offerings from the wood-fired Brazilian churrasco grill, or pull up a seat at the Sea Bar for chilled seafood. Get one of Sydney’s best cocktails at Ember, Wildfire’s intimate bar.

    Go for the views and for international flavors, especially in dishes such as roasted John Dory with shaved cuttlefish and artichoke or slow braised veal with shiitake and lentils. Tastes from France, Italy, Spain, Japan and China combine perfectly.

    This swish dining room is above the famous swimming pool (see Bondi Icebergs). The decor is glamorous and the food is modern Italian Mediterranean.

    Having deservedly regained its second hat Aria has confirmed its status as one of Sydeny’s top restaurants with its elegant and inspired take on Mod Oz cuisine. The views over the harbour and Opera House are spectacualr. A more reasonably priced, pre-theatre menu is available.

    A slice of Melbourne on the waterfront is so popular that it often draws celebrities to its handsome surrounds. The Italian fare is jazzed up with great local ingredients.

  • 9. Longrain

    At this hip restaurant, modern Thai food lends itself well to sharing, with dishes such as spiced curry of duck with peanuts and mandarin juice. Snack at the bar or sip offerings from the wine list.

  • 10. Sean’s Panaroma

    Intimate and friendly, Sean’s serves a small but lovely range of dishes such as linguine with shredded arugula, lemon, chilli and parmesan and the famous white chocolate, fig and rosemary nougat.
