  • The little café amid the bustling Naschmarkt market stalls serves excellent breakfasts all day long and includes all kinds of ethnic cuisines, from Viennese to Turkish.

  • Another of Vienna’s small breweries that sell most of their home brew in the adjoining pub. You can get hearty Viennese cuisine here, too.

  • Here you get hot pots from all over the globe, including Oriental, Caribbean and Mediterranean.

  • The large Art Nouveau conservatory in the Burggarten is a spectacular setting for a restaurant. Dishes are prepared with high-quality seasonal ingredients and you will always find a great selection of cheeses. There is an impressive wine list with the best of Austria’s vintages. In summer there is a bar outside with DJs on Fridays.

  • Food and drink at this bar and restaurant are Spanish-inspired. Live bands perform nearly every day.

  • Austrian dishes in a 300-year-old cellar underneath the monastery.

  • This restaurant specializes in beef. The Hietzing branch was the first of several restaurants in town run by the Plachutta family (see p79).

  • For the ultimate Tafelspitz (see p70) you have to go to Plachutta. Authentic, high-quality Viennese cuisine is served, including premium beef from Austrian farmers. There are several Plachuttas all over Vienna and the quality is excellent in all of them. Make sure you book a table as they all get crowded (see p95).

  • Plachutta is the beef specialist in town. Don’t miss the Tafelspitz with roasted potatoes (see p78).

  • A pub with traditional Viennese food. In summer there is seating outside.
