  • Antiques, oriental rugs, and other nice touches fill the rooms at this historic hotel on downtown Christiansted’s fringes. Each of the 13 rooms is different, but all have kitchenettes.

  • Prospect Reef’s Learn to Sail packages couple accommodations with sailing lessons. For the less nautically inclined, this full-service resort has plenty of land activities including tennis and high tea.

  • Just a short hop off Tortola’s north shore on its own island, Pusser’s is a favorite sailboat anchorage. The bar brings in sailors of all hues for Pusser’s Painkillers, a frothy rum concoction (seePusser’s). Rooms, all with stellar sea views and balconies, have windows open to the trade winds.

  • The ritziest place to stay in St. Thomas, this hotel at Great Bay has staff that attends to every detail (including bringing a drink when you raise the flag on your beach chaise), luxurious rooms, and fabulous food at its dining rooms.

  • Saba Rock, a mere speck reached only by boat, has special rates for boaters who need a break from the nautical life. Those without a private yacht are picked up by ferry. Nice bar and restaurant.

  • Spend your days in the hammock at the sandy beach at White Bay, snorkeling in the clear waters, hiking over to Great Bay, or socializing with other guests at this casual spot. There are only six units (including two on the beach), so you won’t feel crowded.

  • The place to go if you want to get away from it all, this resort has eight villas above a stretch of white sandy beach where you can read to your heart’s content, socialize at the beach, or simply enjoy the quiet.

  • Suites at this resort in Smith Bay overlook the ocean or the marina; all have decks or balconies. Watersports reign here, with snorkeling gear, Sun-fish sailboats, and floats all complimentary.

  • With a beachfront location and a kids’ club, the resort attracts lots of families, particularly at Christmas and in summer. Popular Coral World is only half a mile (1 km) away (seeSapphire Beach Resort, St. Thomas).

  • Owned by Mark and Nanci Shekleton, Sea View Homes delivers just what it promises – luxury homes with sea views. All are in the Great Cruz Bay/Chocolate Hole, Rendezvous Bay, and Fish Bay areas. Sizes range from a cozy cottage to five bedrooms, all with attractive tropical furnishings.
