  • Studio and one- and two-bedroom units in Estate Nazareth front onto an attractive crescent of white sand perfect for sunning. All units have patios or decks, and attractive tropical furnishings. The café (seeBlue Moon Café) is definitely worth a stop. This is one of the few disabled access resorts.

  • With names that reflect the owners’ California roots, the 13 rooms at this small hotel at Cruz Bay’s edge have different sizes and decor. Guests gather at the small pool or the hotel bar after a shopping or beach trip.

  • Located on a stretch of powdery white sand just outside Christiansted, this resort has units ranging from studios to four bedrooms, all with fresh breezes and glorious views. Have a dip in the pool, built around an old sugar mill.

  • With an old sugar mill as its centerpiece, this hotel has 24 rooms, suites, and a villa scattered up the hillside at Apple Bay. Its restaurant is a big draw (seeSugar Mill Restaurant, Tortola). Rooms are done in tropical brights and pastels, and there’s a small beach and a pool.

  • Buck Island and Green Cay on the island’s north shore dot your view at this small motel at the water’s edge; each room has a patio or balcony. The beach is on the rocky side, but the snorkeling is excellent.

  • With a free year-round kids’ camp for 4–12 year-olds, the Buccaneer makes a fine family destination. Running from 9:30am to 5:30pm, the camp has your kids swimming, making arts and crafts, and listening to stories. Children stay free in the same room as adults. The summer packages are often family-oriented (seeThe Buccaneer Hotel, St. Croix).

  • Spacious rooms sporting decorative touches, lovely views, and attentive staff make a stay here a luxury. This full-service resort offers an 18-hole golf course, several tennis courts, watersports, great dining, a fitness center, and a spa.

  • Located near Wickhams Cay II in Road Town, this hotel puts you within walking distance of shops and restaurants. Relax by the pool, go sailing, or take the hotel shuttle to its restaurant at Cane Garden Bay.

  • Managed by Kathy Demar and her small staff, Vacation Homes has a dozen top-of-the-line villas with fine sea views and tropical breezes; most of them are high in the hills along the north shore. The company is known for its attention to service, including stocking the refrigerator with milk and bread.
