  • Go sailing for a day of sun and snorkeling aboard one of the many charter boats that head to St. John or an offshore cay.

  • Charters depart from marinas at the island’s east end for the North Drop, located off St. Thomas and St. John and home to wahoo, bonito, kingfish, black-fin or yellowfin tuna, and marlin.

  • Play the famed Devil’s Triangle at the 18-hole Mahogany Run Golf Course. It overlooks the ocean, adding great views to your golf game.

  • Rent kayaks at oceanfront hotels for a paddle around the bay or take a kayaking and snorkel tour through a mangrove-fringed lagoon with Virgin Islands Ecotours.

  • Many companies take you about 400 ft (120 m) over the Caribbean Sea in a parasail. Most hotels and villas can help with arrangements for pick-ups at a waterfront hotel.

  • Zip around the harbor and beyond on a wave runner, but be careful around the boats. You can rent watercraft from Bolongo Bay Beach Club (seeBolongo Bay Beach Club, St. Thomas) and Sapphire Beach Resort (seeSapphire Beach Resort, St. Thomas).

  • Major hotels, beaches, and marinas have dive centers. You can also take a boat trip to scuba-dive around the reefs and wrecks that sit off St. Thomas (seeTop 10 Dive Sitesand;Wreck of the WIT Shoal II, off St. Thomas).

  • There’s nothing simpler than snorkeling. Put on a mask, snorkel, and fins, plop into the water, and away you go over reefs and fish.

  • All major hotels and many smaller ones have lighted tennis courts open to non-guests for a fee. Another option is to play with the locals at the two lighted public courts at Subbase.

  • Most beachfront hotels rent wind-surfers. Or try the granddaddy of wind-surfing operations in St. Thomas, West Indies Windsurfing.
