  • Crewed boats leave from Road Town, Nanny Cay, and Soper’s Hole for an offshore cay, Jost Van Dyke, the Baths on Virgin Gorda, or Anegada.

  • Fish in the North Drop and other locations. For bonefishing, Caribbean Fly Fishing is the best.

  • Sage Mountain National Park (seeSage Mountain National Park, Tortola) is crisscrossed with shady hiking trails, none of them particularly strenuous or busy. Spend hours enjoying the solitude.

  • Shadow Stables takes you trotting along beautiful, deserted beaches and up and down Tortola’s hills. The island takes on a new perspective when viewed from the saddle, and spectacular vistas are all around.

  • Many resorts offer complimentary kayak use for a paddle around their bay. Otherwise, you can rent them at Nanny Cay, Trellis Bay, or Cane Garden Bay for a paddling and snorkeling excursion.

  • Many week-long or more sailing charters specialize in scuba-diving the wrecks that sit offshore. Or sign on with any of the marina-based dive operators for a day trip.

  • If you don’t have your own gear, you can easily rent mask, snorkel, and fins from water-sports centers all over the island. Look for dark patches near the shore that indicate rocks, reefs, or seagrass beds.

  • Enjoy great swimming off the BVI – dive in from your charter boat or do laps off the beach for some easy and efficient exercise, or just float in the waters and enjoy the landscape.

  • Frenchman’s Cay Hotel (seeFrenchman’s Cay Hotel, Tortola), Long Bay Beach Resort (seeLong Bay Beach Resort, Tortola), and Prospect Reef Resort (seeProspect Reef Resort, Tortola) let non-guests play their courts for a fee. Play free at Moorings-Mariner Inn (seeMoorings-Mariner Inn, Tortola) if the court is not in use.

  • Brisk trade winds, particularly at Trellis Bay, lure windsurfers to Tortola. Rent boards at Trellis Bay and Nanny Cay. You can also take lessons.
