Washington, D.C.

A symbol of democracy the world over and the seat of American government, Washington, D.C. confronts visitors with stirring icons and monuments at every turn. This sparkling self-styled city on the Potomac River is full of marble and light, with beautiful landscaping touches and centuries-old architecture. Built on top of former swampland, Washington was deliberately designed into quadrants, with the US Capitol at its hub. Its many unmissable sights provide unparalleled access to the workings of government, internationally famed museums with priceless exhibits, and the cultural and spiritual foundations of the city and the nation.

  • It’s fun just strolling through this grand building surrounded by illustrious artworks dating from before the Renaissance to the current day. The sculpture garden is a hit with visitors for its outdoor setting, summer jazz concerts, and inviting café.

  • Displaying one of the most distinguished art collections in the world, this gallery gives visitors a broad but in-depth look at the development of Western art over the centuries.

  • National Geographic Society Explorers’ Hall

These first-class exhibits explore the major domains of society, including foreign cultures, nature, archaeology, and superb photography. The hall is at the forefront of designing and constructing interactive and immersive displays to involve visitors in their fascinating subject matter. Kids need little direction here – they take to the explorations and activities enthusiastically, sometimes with a more immediate grasp than adults. The well-stocked shop complements the exhibitions.

  • More than just an auto race, this three-day stop on the American Le Mans Series includes enough performances and concerts, celebrities, exhibitions, and food to qualify as a festival.

  • This gallery remembers citizens who gave their lives to protect the nation.

  • I love your guide book. Please be sure to include the New National Harbor - www.nationalharbor.com - the latest and greatest attraction in the National Capitol Area (DC/MD/VA) - a new entertainment capitol, booming off the banks of the Potomac River, in National Harbor MD - rising to be the largest entertainment venue on the East Coast and upon completion, second only to Las Vegas in the U.S.

Likely you've heard, just wanted to be sure you include my favorite destination and I live here! The way I rave about it, you'd think I worked there.

A "Must Do" not only for the world's business and leisure travelers to our Nations Capitol, but just as much for the locals. Whenever I am there, I feel as though I've gotten off a plane and gone somewhere else - away from home, and it's here - centrally located to DC, MD and VA.

Kudos to Milt Peterson of the Peterson Companies!

  • An accessible and absorbing collection – be sure to see the pre-Colonial art of Benin.

  • National Museum of African Art

This harmonious building brings architectural features common in Africa to one of the Smithsonian’s most innovative museums, built principally underground. The wonderful permanent collection provides the best introduction to the role of art in African culture that one could hope to find.

  • Standard American fare in an efficient cafeteria setting. Kids enjoy the hot dogs.

  • Mixing the “America’s Attic” approach with fine contemporary interpretive exhibits, the museum offers a fascinating look at America’s past.
